Paris, mon amour! A neverending love story.

Paris, 07.03.2017

The last station of each Fashion Week Season is Paris – the city of love and light. It is also the most important station – everyone and everything that is importnat comes to Paris for the „Semaine de la mode“. Once landed in Charles de Gaulle you instantly feel like in „Back to the future“. The gangways, the tubes in that connect the areas, the building itself is totally „out of space“, and even today very modern.

For years we have been living in Le Marais, I personally have a very strong connection to this quartier. Here I feel at home. I know every little alley and every restaurant. It is the quartier of the young and creative, of the designers and artists, and it is definitely the most colorful place during fashion week. Just after arrival we take a seat in the winter garden of the cafe „Les Philosophes“ and watch the colorful drifting of the people. Elegant ladies mix with the young and wild – glam meets punk, mass meets class. Here is where high street fashion meets Chanel. After a glas of Rosé and a good quiche we head north through the streets of the quarter. The fact that Chanel really opened a flagship in Rue vieille du temple is fascinating. Far away from then grand boulevards and the bourgeois areas…This is not where you would have expected Chanel.

Not even 100 meters further we reach my favorite flower shop – Le Artisan Fleuriste. The shop is a litttle piece of art. The owner does not allow anyone to chose the flowers on their own. You pick colors and tell her what you like in general, and she creates a little dream of flowers and green. I have never been disappointed. We spend the first evening at Pamela Popo with some good friends from Germany. It has become tradition to have dinner at this really cute place with really cute waiters. The desert is extraordinary – definitely try the chocolate ball.

The next two days are rainy and cold. This is not what I expected from Paris Fashion Week. We think positive and spend a lot of time on the trade shows – Tranoi, Premiere Classe, Paris sur Mode, Women. The last one is new to us and we are positively surprised. Nice location, great selection of young brands, good atmosphere. In general the trade shows are more fun again. A few seasons ago after the attacks in Bataclan the situation was bad for the industry – empty hallways, frustrated exhibitors. But now we are getting back to what it used to be, slowly.

Saturday afternoon we visit our good friend Antonia Zander at her beautiful showroom in Marais, which she shares with Odeeh and an American Agency. On the way there we eat Macarons and drink tea. In the evening we spurt all together to watch the Talbot Runhof Show in the Westin Grand Hotel. In the sumptuous salon tall girls march to strong beats in wonderful robes. The last looks of the show are a political statement against Trump. The Show closes with a shirt that has „SAD!“ written on it. No more words needed. After the show we eat some sushi around the corner, then we have some drinks at le Derriere – an absolutely cool place! It is a restaurant / bar concept that is set in an apartment. Each room is being used in its original way – if you book a table in the kitchen, you eat in the kitchen. The smoking room is being entered through a cupboard. Í highly recommend this place!

After two days of constant pace and constant rain, an Uber billing that is astronomous (yes, we use Uber in Paris and it is cool,) an empty wallet and very full suitcases as well as a lot of new impressions, i leave with some melancholy. Paris, this time you didn´t show your best side. Still – je t´aime et je reviens!

A bientot.
