Manufacturing Business

Belgrade, 19.05.2017

There is a saying used in the Balkans: Grain by grain makes bread. The first grain on our journey to a fully controlled value chain we sowed in April 2017, when we decided to take over a manufacturing site in Belgrade, Serbia. It was shortly after we even launched the label Mykke Hofmann and we were very very nervous about taking that step.

Today, all Mykke Hofmann collections are produced by our team in Serbia, where we ensure fair working conditions and wages. We know the name and the face of every person working to create our collections. And we are proud to share our journey with you:

When it all began.

Image taken in early 2018 when our factory was still nearly empty. Back then, we had 15 employees, today it is 40 women working for us. Not all of them sitting in Umcari, though. We have a separate rented space in Belgrade for part of our team and freelancers who can’t travel.

All hands on!

The life of every garment begins at our cutting table, where fabrics are first cut into design-units that are later sewn together into a piece.

No waste!

Like in every other production process, there are always some “leftover” fabric scraps. We try to waste as little as possible, not only through efficient production but also through using fabric offcuts for merchandise like tote bags.
